Advertise, Do not Spam

Advertise, Do not Spam

There is a good line between ads and spam and the difference between the two is sadly not known by many business owners. While a smart, well-planned internet marketing strategy may help attract new customers and keep existing customers loyal, spam is likely to alienate both new and existing customers.

This is significant. For company owners, this can be particularly harmful to profit margins. This article will look at a few simple Internet marketing tactics, such as banner ads, email promotions, and posts from the message board, and explain how each can cross the line from clever advertising to spam quickly.

One of the most common tactics that follow an Internet marketing campaign is banner advertising.

Typically, these advertisements are ads that appear at the top of websites and span the website’s width. They received the name of banner ads from this presence, but banner ads will actually refer to ads of a variety of different sizes and shapes that appear on a website in a variety of different locations.

In certain situations, on these platforms, the business owner buys advertising space, but the banner ad can also be placed as part of an exchange or an affiliate marketing program. Banner ad exchanges are cases in which one business owner, in return for another business owner posting his banner ad on the other website, publishes a banner ad on his website. These agreements can be reached on an individual basis between business owners with additional undertakings or as part of exchanges facilitated by a third party.

In the case of affiliate marketing, if the banner ad creates the desired result, such as generating website traffic or generating a sale, an affiliate posts and ads for your company in return for compensation. The terms of these agreements are laid down in advance and are usually based on a pay per impression scale, pay per click or pay per sale or lead.

It is also important to understand how they can be overused and appear to be spam, now that you understand what banner ads are.

Smart marketing is the judicious placement of your banner ad on a few websites that are likely to draw an audience close to your target audience. It can be viewed as spam to put your banner ad on any website that shows the ad regardless of the target audience. Internet users who feel like your banner ads are everywhere they turn would not likely take your company seriously and, as a result of your banner ads, are not likely to buy goods or services from you.

Email promotions can be very useful tools in the Internet marketing industry as well.

These campaigns can include sending periodic information-filled e-newsletters as well as advertisements, short, informative e-mail courses, or e-mails offering product and service discounts. As a result of this marketing strategy, loyal customers who opt into your email list will probably not consider these emails as spam and will buy additional products and services from your company. In addition, this method of advertisement would also be beneficial to prospective customers who have specifically requested more details on your goods and services. Email recipients who have not requested data, however, are likely to interpret your emails as spam. It would probably still be considered to be spam to gather email addresses in a misleading manner and use these addresses to send out mass emails.

Finally, message boards provide company owners with an excellent opportunity to receive some free ads where members of the target audience can find them.

If the goods and services you sell cater to a particular niche, joining message boards and online communities relating to your industry of choice are worthwhile.

A broad population of Internet users who may have an interest in your goods can be found here. When it is applicable to the discussion, you might consider adding a connection to your business in your signature or posting the link.

However, care should be taken to review the rules of the message board carefully to ensure that you do not do anything inappropriate. Smart marketing is this strategy.

Conversely, when it is not important to the discussion, replying to any message with a link to your website is likely to be viewed as spam by other members.

They are not likely to visit your website via the links you post once they begin to view your posts as spam.
