A weblog (or just a blog) is a website that ‘publishes’ or features articles (called ‘blog updates’,’ posts’ or ‘entries’) written by a person or a community that uses some or a mix of the following:
Straight texts ·
· Pictures or videos (photoblog)
· Video (videoblog)
· Files with audio (audioblog)
· Hyperlinks that are
Blogs are essentially used for the following reasons, usually presented and organized in reverse chronological order:
· Online publication or a web journal
· Method of Content Management
· Forum for online publishing
A typical blog has the following components:
· Post date -the date and time of the blog entry
· Category – the category that the blog belongs to
· Title – the title of the blog
· Main body – the main content of the blog
· RSS and trackback – links the blog back from other sites
· Comments – commentaries that are added by readers
· Permalinks – the URL of the full article
· Other optional items – calendar, archives, blogrolls, and add-ons or plug-ins
A blog may also have a footer that displays the post date, the blogger, the category, and the ‘statuses’, typically found at the bottom of the blog (the nubmer of comments or trackbacks).
There are various blog styles. The following are some of them:
- Political blog – on news, politics, advocacy, and blogs focused on other issues (such as campaigning).
- Personal blog – often referred to as an online diary that may include the day-to-day experience of a person, grievances, poetry, and illegal thoughts, and pleasant contact.
- Topical blog – concentrating either on a specific niche that is typically technical in nature (function or position) or on local knowledge.
- Blog on wellness – on particular aspects of health. Health blog is a major health blog category covering health care practitioners’ medical coverage and/or real patient events.
- Literary site – also referred to as litblog.
- Travel blog – with an emphasis on the tales of a traveler on a specific journey.
- Blog of study – on academic questions such as notes of research.
- Legal blog, also known as ‘blawgs’ on the law (technical areas) and legal affairs.
- Media blog – Emphasis on mass media falsehoods or inconsistencies; typically unique to a newspaper or television network.

Blogging is typically done on a regular (almost daily) basis.
The term “blogging” refers to the act of authoring, maintaining, or adding an article to an existing blog, while the term “blogger” refers to a person or a group who keeps a blog.
Today, more than 3 million blogs can be found in the Internet. This figure is continuously growing, as the availability of various blog software, tools, and other applications make it easier for just about anyone to update or maintain the blog (even those with little or no technical background). Because of this trend, bloggers can now be categorized into 4 main types:
· Personal bloggers – people who focus on a diary or on any topic that an individual feels strongly about.
· Business bloggers – people who focus on promoting products and services.
· Organizational bloggers – people who focus on internal or external communication in an organization or a community.
· Professional bloggers – people who are hired or paid to do blogging.
Problogging refers to blogging for a profit (professional blogging). Probloggers are individuals who make money out of blogging (as an individual blog publisher or a hired blogger).

A few things that you need to remember if you want to be competitive in pro blogging are the following:
- Patiently be. Problogging, not to mention a long-term view, takes a lot of time and effort.
- Know your crowd. A key to creating a readership is to reach a particular audience or community.
- Be a ‘professional’. Focus on a particular niche subject and aspire to be the “go-to” blogger on that subject.
- Only diversify. Experiment with numerous programs to add and affiliate that allow you to make money online (aside from blogging).
- Do not overwhelm your readers. On the layout, emphasis. White spaces, line spacing, and wider fonts make reading a welcome blog.
It is definitely possible to raise cash from blogs. In order to be a good ProBlogger, one only needs to take chances, zeal, and the right attitude.
